Hey hey, Darius here 👋🏼
South Africa's largest e-commerce retailer posted its first profit ever.
That alone would be an impressive milestone.
Except it happened after Amazon arrived, Temu took off, and Shein became one of South Africa's biggest online shopping destinations.
By then, you'd expect profitability to be even harder to reach.
Instead, Takealot absorbed the competition, held its ground, and came out the other side in the black for the first time in its history.
Let’s dive into today’s roundup!

Tech Roundup
LemFi has acquired UK-regulated investment platform Wealth8, expanding beyond remittances into investing. With the licence now in hand, the fintech can begin offering wealth products alongside money transfers.
Takealot has become profitable for the first time in its history, ending years of heavy investment by South Africa's largest e-commerce retailer. Even as Amazon, Temu, and Shein pile into the market, the company has managed to turn the corner.

Nigeria's central bank revoked the licences of 46 microfinance banks over regulatory breaches, marking one of the sector's biggest cleanups in recent years. Among those affected are several digital lenders, as the CBN tightens oversight of the country's fast-growing financial services industry.
Nigerian startup Data Entry Academy has won the UNDP Timbuktoo EdTech Accelerator. Beating startups from across the continent, it took home the programme's top prize for its workforce training platform.

Deal Roundup
